Commuters who have long awaited the opening of the REM line toward Deux-Montagnes will have to wait a bit longer: the branch is now expected to begin service in November 2025, about a month later than previously anticipated. According to The Gazette, this new delay pushes back the line’s opening from the originally planned late-2024 target.
Originally, two new branches (Deux-Montagnes and Anse-à-l’Orme) were to be completed by the end of 2024, but their launch was postponed to autumn 2025. Meanwhile, the Rive-Sud branch of the REM has encountered multiple reliability issues over the past winter, including service slowdowns and interruptions. A formal announcement on the updated schedule is expected later this morning.
As for the Anse-à-l’Orme branch, its opening has been delayed further: it is now projected to begin service in spring 2026.
In the meantime, shuttle buses continue to operate for users originally served by the Deux-Montagnes commuter-rail line, providing connectivity during REM construction.
