Île Bizard Bridge to Be Named in Honour of Guy Lafleur

Montreal is paying tribute to one of its greatest sports legends with the announcement that the new bridge connecting Île Bizard to the Island of Montreal will carry the name Guy Lafleur Bridge.

Guy Lafleur, beloved across Quebec and beyond, was more than a hockey hero. Known affectionately as “The Flower”, Lafleur left an indelible mark on the Montreal Canadiens, bringing home five Stanley Cups during his career and thrilling fans with his speed, grace, and unforgettable scoring ability. Off the ice, he was equally admired for his generosity, his approachable nature, and his long-standing ties to the local community.

The choice of location is especially meaningful. Lafleur called Île Bizard home for nearly three decades, becoming not only a neighbor but an active and caring presence in the area. Naming the bridge in his honour ensures that his legacy will remain woven into the fabric of the community he cherished.

This tribute follows other recognitions of Lafleur’s extraordinary impact. Most notably, Highway 50 in Quebec was renamed Autoroute Guy-Lafleur in 2023, reflecting the province’s desire to celebrate his contributions both on and off the ice.
