🚨 **Police Operation at Cap-Saint-Jacques Beach Following Suspected Drowning** 🚨

A police intervention was underway Tuesday evening at **Cap-Saint-Jacques Beach** after a possible drowning incident, as the area was packed with beachgoers trying to escape the extreme heat.

Witnesses reported seeing someone in distress in the water around **6:40 p.m.**, prompting emergency crews to completely evacuate the popular **Pierrefonds-Roxboro** beach to begin the search.

According to SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc, it is still unclear whether the individual is male or female. Police, firefighters, ambulances, and the coast guard were all deployed to the scene.

Some witnesses say the beach was even more crowded than the previous day, with several people swimming **outside the designated safe zones**, where no lifeguards were present.

As fireworks from the Fête nationale echoed in the background, the intense search efforts continued both on the water and along the shore.

This would mark the **26th drowning** of the summer in Quebec and the **second in just two days**, following another tragic incident at **Verdun Beach** on Monday.

Search efforts on land continued into the night, with water searches set to resume **Wednesday morning**.
