I wanted to share a heartwarming community initiative that’s making a real difference for people battling cancer.
As you know, losing one's hair during chemotherapy can be a profoundly difficult and vulnerable experience. In a small way, we wanted to ease that process — and hopefully make wearing a wig a little less intimidating — by creating handcrafted wig stands for cancer patients.

I’m a member of the West Island Woodturners, a group of nearly 70 local woodworkers who meet regularly in Pointe-Claire. When I presented this project to them — making wig stands for the Hope and Cope Cancer Centre at the Jewish General Hospital — the response was overwhelming. Our members chose their finest woods and turned them into beautiful, functional works of art.
Last week, we received another generous donation of hardwood from JTM Sawmill in Saint-Lazare, adding even more rich materials for the project’s future phases. The initial stands are already in the hands of patients, and we’re preparing the rest to be delivered to the Lakeshore Hospital.
This small gesture — made with compassion, creativity, and community spirit — shows how much we can ease someone’s struggles through kindness. If you’re interested in learning more or seeing some photos of the stands, I’d be delighted to share them with you.
Together, we can make a difficult time just a little bit less heavy.
