A used-car dealership in Dorval, located in Montreal’s West Island, became the scene of a suspected arson fire overnight from Sunday to Monday. The incident caused significant damage to several vehicles and the building itself, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Details of the Dorval Incident

At approximately 12:30 a.m., the 911 dispatch centre received a call reporting an alarm triggered at the dealership on Chartier Avenue near 55e Avenue. Montreal police officers arrived quickly and found the building on fire. They immediately called the fire department for assistance.

According to Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson for the Montreal police, initial reports indicate that one or more suspects forcibly broke down the dealership’s front door to start the fire. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

Damage Caused by the Fire

The fire damaged about a dozen vehicles inside the dealership. Some were directly affected by the flames, while others suffered water damage from the sprinkler system activated to control the fire. The building itself sustained damage to the front entrance and interior areas.

Investigators also found incendiary materials at the scene, which strongly suggests the fire was deliberately set. This discovery has led to the case being handed over to the Montreal police arson squad for further investigation.

What Happens Next in the Investigation

The arson squad will conduct a thorough examination of the scene, collecting evidence and reviewing surveillance footage if available. Police will also interview witnesses and nearby residents to gather any information that could help identify the suspects.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously to help bring those responsible to justice.

Impact on the Community and Business

While no one was hurt, the fire has disrupted the dealership’s operations and caused financial losses due to vehicle and property damage.
