Fiction Fest is a unique, grassroots event that brings dozens of Canadian authors from all across the country together in a united effort to shine a light on the wealth of literary talent we have right here in Canada. New this year, it’s the only event that is free for the public to attend and which involves traditionally published, hybrid, and independent authors all working together in a virtual setting.
Think of Fiction Fest as a big online book fair, focused completely on Canadian fiction. The goal is to bring together in one place as many Canadian books and authors as possible—covering all genres of fiction and all target age groups—so that readers, both within and outside of Canada, can learn more about them.
The two-week event is also running 36 free online panel discussions and author readings that the public can register for through https://fictionfest.ca/events/. Everyone, from the organizer to each of the authors participating in these readings and panel discussions, is volunteering their time to make this a fun event for fiction-lovers and to hopefully help them find some new favourite reads!
121 Canadian fiction authors are involved from 11 provinces/territories, and from all across the publishing spectrum, with numerous award-winning and short-listed books including (among others): Silver Birch, Red Maple, Kobo Emerging Writers, Amazon First Novel, Aurora, Nebula, Giller Prize, Junior Library Guild, Sunburst, Rubery, Wishing Shelf, Indie Ink, and Whistler Independent Book Awards. The showcase has books ranging from picture books on up, and a fantastic mix of fantasy, science-fiction, horror, romance, mystery, and more, so you’re sure to find something you love! Local indie author Mimi Flood will be reading from her book, Swept Away, on June 29th at 12:00pm EDT, as well as participating in a panel discussion, “Falling in Love with Love: Why Romance?” on June 21st at 12:00pm EDT!
Canada Fiction Fest will run from June 21st to July 4th, 2026, but registration for the free virtual sessions (author readings and discussion panels) is already open.
I think Fiction Fest sounds like an amazing opportunity for readers and writers to connect while celebrating Canadian literary talent. It’s inspiring to see so many authors volunteering their time to make books more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. I love how the event welcomes different publishing paths and offers free discussions for the public. It reminds me of the creativity and community spirit I enjoy in EaglerCraft, where people come together to share ideas and experiences in fun and meaningful ways.
