Emma's Pizzeria in Pointe-Claire Plaza has started a system to ensure that anyone needing a warm meal can stop by the pizza joint to enjoy a free treat. The community-minded initiative encourages customers to pass on a meal by paying for the order and leaving the receipt on the door. Whoever may be in need of some soul food can take one of the receipts taped to the entrance door to the counter where they will be served.
The Italian tradition of caffè sospeso inspires the setup to pay it forward. In an anonymous act of charity, café-goers in Naples who had experienced good luck would pass on this fortune by ordering a coffee for the next person to enjoy.
