The Pierrefonds Park Pool is in its final season; former members recall fond summer memories.

The Pierrefonds Park Pool's 59-year streak of activity-packed summers is ending. The Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro decided that keeping the pool open would require too many funds and bringing the facilities up to par would be impossible, seeing as it sits on a floodplain.

The community pool, which is located at 355 Rive Boisée in Pierrefonds, is host to swimming, diving, water polo, aqua fitness, and synchronized swimming programs, as well as summer day camp services. Its closure means the end of an era for current and former members, as many reminisce on precious memories.

Itsik Romano looks back fondly upon his time spent at the pool with his children: "PPK was one the best highlights of our summers, living on Rue Des Maçons for over 17 years. I remember bringing my kids to swim and have fun at the pool while I was jamming my guitar in the kiddie pool with my youngest son. Great memories!"

René Leblanc was a president of the pool in the 90s, and reflects upon the community efforts it took to help maintain the pool and their dedication, like when volunteers poured concrete to re-fill the pool after winter storms damaged it.

"It's a community pool in every sense of the word, everyone involved are volunteers. My children were at that pool morning, noon, and night; the setting alone is near condos and senior living which served the population very well."

As a final salute to the pool, a "PPK Last Splash Blast" is being held on Saturday, August 19th, from 1–11 pm. There will be a Free Swim period from 1–4 pm, a "Taste of Italy" food truck from 5:30 pm to 8 pm, and a live band. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at PPK.

They are also searching for pictures from PPK days over the years! You may share your photos with them via ppklastsplashphotos@gmail.com.
