Premier Legault announces that health restrictions will be relaxed in several Quebec regions as of next Monday given the current improvements in their Coronavirus reports.

The “Greater Quebec” region will move to the red zone as of next Monday, May 10, 2021.

Secondary 1 and 2 students will be permitted to return to class full-time, while those in Secondary 3,4, & 5 will alternate between in-class and remote-learning.

The curfew will be pushed back to 9:30 p.m. and non-essential businesses will be allowed to reopen.

The health situation remains fragile in the Outaouais area, but Quebec will reopen elementary schools as of Monday.

However, only two RCMs in the region will be brought back to the red level and will therefore be able to benefit from the same flexibilities as in Quebec, namely those of Vallée-de-la-Gatineau and Papineau.

In Beauce and Les Etchemins, only primary schools will reopen beginning next Monday in three MRCs, namely in Beauce-Sartigan, Robert Cliche, and Les Etchemins.

The only region in which COVID health restrictions will be tightened is the MRC du Granit, in Estrie. Thus, from tomorrow evening at midnight, it will be subject to emergency measures. That is, non-essential businesses will have to close, the curfew will be lowered to 8 p.m., and high school students will return to online education.

Note, Abitibi-Témiscamingue will move from orange to yellow.

Government officials are optimistic for the future as Quebec progresses with the COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

The Legault government reports that several regions have the potential to drop from the red zone to the orange zone with the possibility of further lessening to the yellow alert level in the coming weeks as long as the current epidemiological situation persists. If that is the case and additional COVID-19 health restrictions are relaxed, then bars and restaurants could reopen and two bubble gatherings may be allowed in homes again.

Premier Legault also confirmed that discussions are taking place with the public health sector to consider allowing spectators to attend Canadiens games in-person at the Bell Center.
