Along with a new political party comes a new candidate for a West Island riding. The Canadian Party of Québec (CaPQ) announced its official launch in Montréal this past June and has since been announcing the candidates who will be representing the provincial party.

Jean Marier, a candidate for the Nelligan electoral district, has joined forces with Colin Standish, the Party's leader, after being dissatisfied with the Liberal Party's « lukewarm » responses to Bill 21 and 96. A lifelong Liberal voter previously, he sources their reactions to these bills as his motivation to enter politics as a first-time candidate.
The Nelligan riding encompasses L'Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève, Kirkland, and most of Pierrefonds-Roxboro, where Marier was born and raised. He studied at école primaire Ste-Geneviève during elementary school and attended Pierrefonds Community High School for his secondary education. Jean later studied at Vanier College and graduated from Concordia University. With a successful career in finance with Vice Presidential positions at the Bank of Montreal and Manulife, Jean jokes that his most important work was raising a family of three with his wife Lisa and his complete implication at the community level.
In terms of his community involvements, he has been a lecturer at John Abbott College, a reader at St. Edmund of Canterbury parish, a coach at West Island College and the Beaconsfield Rugby Club, and he was a member of the governing board at St. John Fisher School and École Marguerite Bourgeoys.
Self-described as a proud Canadian, Marier was an officer in the Royal Montreal Regiment and a member of the Katimavik youth program, which aims to educate and support Canadian youths and work towards truth and reconciliation with Indigenous populations.
