📣 REM Riders: What’s going on with parking & pricing? 🚇🚗

Heads up — parking at REM stations isn’t fully free anymore and a lot of riders are frustrated. The idea was to offer free park-and-ride spaces to encourage transit use, but:

📍 At stations like Pierrefonds-Roxboro, there are free spots — but they go FAST every morning, meaning you need to get there really early if you want a free space.

💸 Paid Parking at many stations is now in effect or soon will be. At stations including Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Brossard, Deux-Montagnes and others:

• Daily parking costs about $10.29 per day.

• Monthly passes run around $121.30.

• Managed through Indigo Neo online or the mobile app — there are no pay stations on site.

Many riders are upset because that’s almost the same price as a transit fare — and free spots fill up extremely early. Sometimes riders report needing to arrive well before rush hour to grab a free space.

🚆

REM Fares (Transit Cost)

The cost to take the REM depends on where you’re going in the Montreal area under the ARTM fare system:

Zone A (within Montreal)

• 1 trip — $3.75

• 10 trips — $34.25

• Monthly pass — $104.50

• 24-hour pass — $11.25

Zone A + B (Montreal + Laval/Longueuil)

• 1 trip — $5.00

• 10 trips — $47.50

• Monthly — $164.50

Zones A + B + C (further suburbs)

• 1 trip — $7.00

• 10 trips — $60.25

• Monthly — $200.50

(Prices include bus/metro/train access for the same zones.)

👉 Bottom line:

• Taking the REM itself is about the same as metro fares.

• Parking close to REM stations can cost ~$10/day or $120/month if you can’t snag a free spot.

• Free spots do exist but go early — or they’re gone.

What’s been your experience — are the free spots gone before you even arrive? 🚗⬇️

This whole parking situation has been frustrating. Every time I go to catch the REM, it feels like a gamble whether I’ll find a spot close by or end up paying way more than I expected. And with pricing and rules changing so often, it’s hard to plan ahead.

I’ve been looking into options like YourParkingSpace reviews to see if there are better, more affordable spots nearby, but even those are mixed — some places are decent deals, others not worth the walk. Would be great if the REM folks could coordinate a bit better or offer clearer guidance on the best parking options for daily riders.

Right now it feels like we’re all just trying to figure it out…

Interesting changes. I imagine how many people will arrive earlier than usual there.

This is honestly so frustrating! I've been trying to take the REM from Pierrefonds-Roxboro for the past month, and unless I leave my house before 6:30 AM, forget about finding a free spot. The paid parking basically doubles my commute cost when you add it to the transit fare. Yesterday I had to circle the lot three times and ended up being late for a Hair Color appointment I had booked months in advance in downtown Montreal. At this point, it's almost cheaper and more convenient to just drive all the way downtown and pay for parking there. The whole point of the REM was supposed to be making public transit MORE accessible and affordable, but between $10 daily parking…
