The Organized Crime Division of the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) seized 105 kg of cocaine and arrested a dozen suspects yesterday, in two separate operations targeting individuals linked to organized crime. The market value of the cocaine seized is estimated at close to $3.7 million.

Kirkland and Laval
As part of an investigation targeting a cocaine distribution network on the Island of Montréal and the North Shore, the Northeast Narcotics and EMAF units of the Organized Crime Division first intercepted a 48-year-old suspect in Kirkland at approximately 7:40 p.m., yesterday, November 30th. A cardboard box containing 30 kg of cocaine was found inside his vehicle. A second suspect, 28 years old, was apprehended in Kirkland a short time later. Three containers containing 46 kg of cocaine were seized from his vehicle. Finally, a search of a residence in Laval resulted in the seizure of an additional 4 kg of cocaine and the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect. These three seizures by the SPVM also led to the discovery of nearly $8,000 in cash, a taser, crack cocaine, and MDMA (ecstasy).
Saint-Léonard
As part of an investigation initiated last summer by the Antigang team of the Organized Crime Division, a 32-year-old suspect was arrested in the borough of Saint-Léonard yesterday around 2 p.m., as he was taking a field hockey bag filled with drugs out of his vehicle. Inside the bag, police found 25 kg of cocaine, 1000 narcotic pills (to be analyzed), and cannabis. Eight other individuals, seven males and one female were also apprehended during the police operation for their alleged involvement in the same ring. Over $500,000 in cash, 4 kg of crystal methamphetamine, and 4,000 pills were also seized.
The suspects apprehended in these two separate investigations are scheduled to appear at the Montreal courthouse to face various charges related to drug trafficking.
