The former Vancouver Canuck replaces Kirk Muller as assistant coach.

The Montreal Canadians welcome new assistant coach, West Island localite, Alexandre Burrows to the team after letting go of Kirk Muller. Burrows is a retired NHL player and a native of Pincourt QC. He was formerly the assistant coach of the Laval Rockets, the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate team.
Before retiring in 2018, Alex Burrows had a lengthy NHL career. He went undrafted and was overlooked by many scouts until the Vancouver Canucks took a chance and signed him. He excelled and proved all his doubters wrong, having a career that lasted 13 seasons, playing for the Canucks and the Ottawa Senators. The highlight that he will be remembered for the most was his game seven overtime winner against the Chicago Blackhawks in round one of the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs, eliminating the Hawks, who were the previous year’s Cup champions. Vancouver made it to the finals that year, but fell to the Boston Bruins. Burrows finished his career with 409 points in 913 games. On Dec. 3, 2019, he was inducted into the Vancouver Canucks ring of honor.
Despite never playing for Montreal, Burrows grew up as a Habs fan, and that never changed. “I still like watching them play. Sometimes we get in for a game at 7:00 pacific time and the Habs are already playing. I’ll throw the Habs game on and the boys give me a hard time.” Said Burrows in a 2016 interview prior to a Canucks game against the Habs.
This job will mark the first time that Alex will be a part of an NHL coaching staff.
