We Asked, You Answered: The Best Zeppole in the West Island!

While the days in March are still dark and cold, there's always one amazing tradition this time of year that we can look forward to: Zeppole Season! While buying these Italian delicacies (originally served every March 19 on Saint-Joseph's Day) is practically a way of life for most Italians, it has also become tradition for everyone else.

Whether you want them filled with custard or ricotta, baked or fried, infused with Nutella or lemon, there's always a plethora of options! However, the question remains: If you live in the West Island, which are the best bakeries to get these heavenly treats? We asked. You answered. These are your top picks in no specific order!!

Located just off of Sources Blvd. on de Salaberry, this charming bakery is definitely a must-stop when shopping in the Marché de l'Ouest. Make sure to say hello to Alphonso, who's been making the pastries for over 3 decades!

455 Lakeshore Dr, Dorval, Quebec H9S 2A9

Nothing is more satisfying after a brisk walk along the lakeshore than stopping by this pastry for a well deserved reward. The name "Non Solo Pane" is Italian for "Not Only Bread" and they certainly prove that. While they may also sell amazing lobster tails, cannoli or sfogliatelle, the main pastry you'll be going there for is definitely their zeppole.

58 Brunswick Blvd. , Pointe-Claire, Quebec H9B 2L3

Being the one-stop shop for Italian foods in the West, it is no wonder that Lafrenaie made the list. If you're not a fan of ricotta filled zeppole, fear not as they're also made with custard and Nutella! There's definitely a flavour for everyone!

1895 Rue Piché, Lachine, QC H8S 2H9

We Know. Lachine may not fall under West Island "Limits", however, because it was so popular among our voters, we decided to add it to our list! Just a 10 minute drive from Dorval, this little Lachine bakery has you covered for all your cravings. While you may go there for what our readers consider a wonderful zeppole, it's very much worth checking out their other desserts. Some original menu items include hazelnut tortes, casatas (Sicilian cake) & whoopie pies. Bonus: Pick up a gelato or a gluten-free cookie! Extra Bonus: Get yourself a pistachio Zeppole!

15714 Pierrefonds Blvd, Pierrefonds, Quebec H9H 3P6

While this bakery may be the baby of the bunch (it opened in 2019), this Pierrefonds shop is quickly gaining a popular reputation! While Italian pastries may be their specialty, they also offer a variety of desserts including mini cheesecakes and the Portuguese delicacy, pasteis de natas. Needless to say, the first item to buy: a zeppole, of course!

19787 Sainte Marie Rd, Kirkland, Quebec H9J 3L8

This isn't just your ordinary place to grab a bite after catching a movie at the Kirkland Colisée. La Trattoria has been a Kirkland staple since 2004 providing residents with quality pastries and food. While they may have the sweetest desserts & most savoury pizzas and paninis, it's clear that La Trattoria is one of your top destinations for a great tasting zeppole!
