Dollard-des-Ormeaux resident issued ticket for unlocked car.

A Dollard-des-Ormeaux resident is facing a $110 fine for leaving her parked vehicle unlocked. She claims that her car was parked in front of her residence and took to Facebook to express her confusion upon receiving the statement of offense.

The description detailed an infraction of the Highway Safety Code: 381: No person may leave unattended a road vehicle that is in their custody without previously removing the ignition key and locking the doors. This code is also followed up by regulation 381.1, which states that this rule applies to private roads open to public traffic and on lands such as shopping center lots and other public areas.

Tickets for this offense are rare but possible, and a concern for vehicle owners as fines that begin at a minimum of $60 can total $110 with added costs.
