The invisible killers: COVID-19 and student Mental Health

The following is a message from the SEL 360 organization:

The invisible killers: COVID-19 and student Mental Health are leaving a mark in society.

❖ 3.2 million adolescents in Canada are at risk of suffering from depression ❖ Suicide accounts for 24% of all deaths amongst 15 to 24-year olds in Canada

❖ Only 1 in 5 children who need mental health services ever get support

These staggering numbers tell a tale that is unfolding as rapidly as COVID-19 is weaving its way across the world.

Now, more than ever, is the time to address these issues as we face the negative ripple effect of the pandemic across our families, schools, businesses, finances, hospitals – and emotional states.

SEL360 is armed to create awareness and support for children, parents and caregivers who are suffering from anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation.

Our research-based solutions, possible through collaborations with local and international Mental Health Service Professionals helps inform and educate the public about escalating issues that may still be invisible.

More information about SEL 360: SEL360 is an organization of youth service professionals who collaborate via round-table discussions to reduce the stigma, create more awareness, and provide support for students and their parents dealing with mental health issues in the Montreal community.
