Teresa Berghello Named New Director General of John Abbott College

The Board of Governors of John Abbott College is pleased to announce the appointment of Teresa Berghello as the new Director General, effective June 17, 2024.

Teresa joined the John Abbott College faculty in 2004 to later become the Chair and Coordinator of the Nursing department and program in 2008. Her experience in teaching and learning, as well as her outstanding administrative and managerial skills led her to become the interim Dean of Science and Social Science in 2013 and Dean since 2015. Teresa played a key role in assisting the College in facing the challenges posed by the pandemic, including the transition to and adaptation to the online teaching, learning and work environment.

Teresa was appointed Academic Dean in June 2022 and has demonstrated strong leadership in this role, particularly in leading the implementation of the requirements of the changes to the Charte de la langue française (law 14). She has approached this in a supportive and comprehensive manner, leveraging her deep understanding of the law and its implications to inform decision making at the College.

Following recommendations from the Director General Search Committee and Academic Council, the Board of Governors is thrilled with Teresa’s appointment as the new Director General. Stéphane Selim, the Chair of the Board of Governors stated that: “Terry’s education, her experience inside and outside of John Abbott College, her deep understanding of Bill-96, and her vision for the future of education made her the best candidate to continue the excellent work that John Halpin has accomplished during his 10-years at the College.”

Congratulations, Terry!
