Christian Dubé, Quebec's Health Minister, conducted a surprise visit at the Lakeshore General Hospital on Saturday, January 20th, to engage with frontline staff. He spoke with the Chief Nurse of the Emergency Department, who he claims "highlighted improvements in schedule management contributing to a better work environment." Dubé observed the progress of the Emergency Department's modular expansion, which was described as "a tangible step to better meet the needs of the population."

This modular building, where the Emergency Department of the Lakeshore will be hosted temporarily, is set to open in mid-April after unforeseen obstructions postponed its initial November opening. The building is in parking area P1 and attached to the hospital. It will remain in place for several years to simplify the construction of the new Emergency Department, which is set to begin in 2025.

The new Emergency Department, once completed, will consist of an 8300m² three-story building that includes:
38 stretchers in cubicles;
a 12-bed short-term hospitalization unit in physical health;
a 6-bed short-term intervention unit in mental health;
examination rooms;
pre-triage and triage zones;
medical imaging rooms;
and a 10-seat rapid assessment zone.
