Beaconsfield councillor Martin St-Jean has announced his candidacy for mayor in the upcoming municipal election on November 2, 2025.

St-Jean, a lawyer with 25 years of experience, was first elected to council in 2021. He currently chairs the city’s Traffic Advisory Committee and Demolition Committee. His professional background includes serving as legal counsel for the City of Montreal during the Charbonneau Commission, as well as Director of Legal Services for Westmount.

One of his key priorities is addressing Beaconsfield’s ongoing dispute with Montreal over agglomeration service costs, which account for about 60 per cent of the city’s tax bill. St-Jean has also pointed to climate resilience and provincial density requirements as issues the city will need to confront in the years ahead.

Bourelle, who has often faced criticism for his style of leadership and his tense relationship with residents, announced earlier this summer that he would not seek another mandate. St-Jean is the first councillor to formally declare his candidacy for mayor.
