Pointe-Claire Mayor Defends Actions as Legal Costs Climb Amid Misuse Allegations
The legal expenses tied to Pointe-Claire Mayor Tim Thomas continue to rise as he contests allegations of misusing his municipal credit card and City vehicle.
According to information provided by the City, legal fees for March, April, and May 2025 totaled $104,212.19. An additional $33,026.57 was reported for July, bringing known legal costs to $137,238.76 to date.
Pointe-Claire’s insurance for this type of claim provides $100,000 of coverage with a $25,000 deductible. With costs now exceeding that limit, any additional expenses may fall to the City.
Mayor Thomas maintains that he acted in good faith and followed official guidance. “I followed the instructions provided regarding the use of the City vehicle and credit card exactly as directed,” he said. “I am being charged for actions I was explicitly told to take, and under the law, the City is responsible for covering legal costs in situations like this. I had no influence over the overall costs incurred during this process.”
The allegations are currently before the Commission municipale du Québec, which held hearings over four full days from July 21 to 24, 2025. A decision has not yet been issued.
