2021 Canada Day event in Pierrefonds-Roxboro

Families in the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro got to experience reinvented Canada Day festivities on July 1st. The city's goal was to adapt its habitual festivities in order to avoid large crowds.

Families were invited to book a free time slot online and then given the choice to experience the parade from their car or in a train wagon if they do not own a car. The event included floats, dance troupes, comedians, mascots, and more.

The West Island News spoke with Pierrefonds-Roxboro mayor Jim Beis about the Canada Day event.

While Canada has lots to celebrate, the West Island news would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge its colonial history. As the West Island celebrated Canada Day this year, we recognize that those celebrations took place on stolen land, and we will never be able to grasp the struggle Indigenous communities have faced and continued to face across Canada’s tumultuous history.
