West Island woman with Ukrainian roots, Francene Elle, organized a humanitarian aid drop-off location at Duffy's bar in Dorval this past Sunday.
The goal was to fill a plane with essential items for those who remain in Ukraine and who are currently fleeing the conflict.
Elle says that she felt a responsibility to help after following the developing war between the invading Russian forces and Ukraine.
The donations are being transported by Meest, a Toronto-based Ukrainian delivery company that is currently providing free air transport for humanitarian purposes to the country.
The word spread through posters and social media posts made by Elle and the response was overwhelming.
"I don't post pictures on Facebook because that isn't helping," Elle said. "If we can make a difference in their lives, then my job's done."
A member of her family was born in Kyiv and left at the start of the Russian revolution, she said.
