Volunteer West Island Opens New Central Kitchen to Support Growing Demand for Meals on Wheels**

Volunteer West Island (VWI) is proud to announce the grand opening of its brand-new **Meals on Wheels Central Kitchen**, a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the growing need for nutritious meals among seniors in the West Island community.

Located within the **West Island Mission at 72D Brunswick Boulevard**, this new central kitchen will operate in harmony with the region’s existing nine Meals on Wheels kitchens, significantly boosting meal production and service capacity. The inauguration will take place on **April 29th, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.**, and marks a meaningful step forward in enhancing food security and senior care throughout the region.

At full operation, the Central Kitchen will prepare and deliver more than **200 additional home-cooked meals twice a week**, all thanks to the dedication of a passionate team of volunteers. Meals on Wheels has long been a lifeline for many seniors, offering not just nourishment, but also a friendly visit, a sense of connection, and the comfort of knowing someone cares.

> “We are excited to be working with so many volunteers to be able to offer an increased number of meals along with expanding our reach to more seniors in the West Island,” said **Lynda Barrett**, Executive Director of Volunteer West Island. “More seniors will lead a more fulfilling life because they are cared for, better nourished and offered additional support services. This new location will also help to ensure the stability of all our MOW kitchens.”

The realization of the new kitchen was made possible through the generosity of **The Tino & Carmela CARRARA Family Foundation**, **Employment and Social Development Canada**, and **The Mirella & Lino Saputo Foundation**, as well as VWI’s core funders: **Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec**, **Centraide of Greater Montreal**, and **West Island Community Shares**.

“We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our donors and funders; your support is invaluable in helping us serve our community,” Barrett added.

For decades, Volunteer West Island has stood as a pillar of community support. Founded in 1967, the not-for-profit organization has connected volunteers with essential services and programs that build stronger, healthier communities. In addition to facilitating volunteerism, VWI provides food and wellness services to seniors and isolated individuals, helping them remain independent and supported in their own homes.

As the demand for food services continues to grow, this new Central Kitchen reaffirms Volunteer West Island’s commitment to innovation, compassion, and community care.

What a fantastic initiative by Volunteer West Island! Ensuring access to nutritious meals is essential for supporting seniors and individuals with limited mobility. While browsing topics on community support and accessibility, I recently came across some interesting insights on entertainment and leisure options like Wild Card City Casino, which also highlights how online platforms are adapting to different user needs. Both examples show how thoughtful services can make a meaningful difference.
