When officers from the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) arrived at the scene, firefighters were already present and were trying to control the flames. A can of gasoline was found near a car in Pierrefonds.
A nearby resident called 9-1-1 after hearing the explosion.
According to the SPVM, they found a canister [of gas] right there on the edge of the fence, and they consider it to be criminal. There were no injuries.
No suspects have been arrested. The damage to the vehicle is extensive.
Given the suspicious nature of this fire, the investigation was transferred to the SPVM.
Investigators from the arson squad are responsible for the file and will try to establish the causes and circumstances of this event.
