Montreal, March 31, 2026 — The community at Cégep Gérald-Godin is grappling with the disappearance of one of its students, 18-year-old Hassoun Choui, who went missing last Thursday in the Rivière des Prairies behind the school.

According to authorities, Choui fell into the river on March 26. Despite ongoing search efforts, he has not yet been found. Police and emergency crews have spent several days combing the area, though operations have since been scaled back as conditions remain challenging.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the West Island campus and beyond.

“We are going through an extremely difficult moment as a community,” said Director General Julie Pelletier. “Our thoughts are with Hassoun’s family, his loved ones, and all those affected. We are offering our full support during this painful time.”

Since the incident, the Cégep has implemented a range of support measures for students and staff, including counseling services and on-site assistance. These resources will remain available for as long as needed.

The tragedy has also prompted an outpouring of support from the broader community, with students and residents expressing concern and solidarity as the search continues.

Authorities say updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
