Bombardier Announces $100M Manufacturing Expansion in Dorval, Creating 330 Jobs

Bombardier has announced plans to build a new 126,000-square-foot manufacturing centre in Dorval, west of Montreal, to meet growing demand for its business aircraft. The new facility, roughly the size of two football fields, represents an investment of about $100 million and is expected to open before the end of 2027.

The centre will be located near Bombardier’s existing Dorval operations, where Challenger business jets are currently assembled. According to the company, the expansion will improve production efficiency and better position Bombardier to respond to future market demand.

David Murray, Bombardier’s Executive Vice-President of Manufacturing, IT and Operational Excellence, said the new plant will allow the company to modernize its production processes while continuing to scale up aircraft output. While Bombardier did not disclose how many additional planes it will produce once the facility opens, the company confirmed it has steadily increased production over the past five years.

The project is expected to create approximately 330 new jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy and Quebec’s aerospace sector.

Quebec Economy Minister Christine Fréchette was on hand for the announcement, confirming the province will support the project with a $35-million repayable loan through an Investissement Québec program. She emphasized that Bombardier’s expansion will generate major economic benefits across the province’s aerospace supply chain.

Bombardier plays a critical role in Quebec’s economy, accounting for about 5% of the province’s total exports. In 2024, Quebec’s aerospace sector generated more than $22 billion in sales and employed 43,000 people.

Bombardier President and CEO Éric Martel previously indicated the company was considering increasing production rates, which could lead to further hiring at the Dorval site, including for the Challenger 3500 business jet program.
